Biography

Aurelio Mateo-Alonso “Koke" is a Spanish chemist and Ikerbasque Research Professor at POLYMAT and at the University of the Basque Country. His research interests include the synthesis and supramolecular chemistry of π-conjugated systems that extend in 1D, 2D and 3D. Koke obtained his B.Sc. (1999) and M.Sc. (2000) degrees in Organic Chemistry from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). In 2004, he completed his Ph.D. at Queen Mary, University of London (UK). Between 2004 and 2009, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Università di Trieste (Italy). In 2009, he joined the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (Germany) as an independent Group Leader. In 2012, he returned to Spain and took his current position at POLYMAT, where he leads the Molecular and Supramolecular Materials group. His scientific contributions have been recognized by several national and international awards, including the Young Investigator Prize of Università di Trieste (Italy 2007), Eugen- Graetz Prize of Universität Freiburg (Germany 2009), Young Investigator Prize of RSEQ (Spain 2011), Young Investigator Award of the Nanocarbon Division of the ECS (USA 2012) and Excellence Research Award of RSEQ (Spain 2021).
